CQ dog wild dog or Dingo

Red makes it even more interesting as we have her testing E/e at the E-locus which would normally not expression of red at that normally requires e/e. Thinking aloud, perhaps the new mutation we spotted in the B-locus isn’t having an effect, or perhaps its being masked.

Thinking aloud, perhaps the new mutation we spotted in the B-locus isn’t having an effect, or perhaps its being masked. The Chongqing seems really fascinating genetically from what we have seen in the results and it took both of us quite a while yesterday and this morning to pick apart the results as it looks like no-one has reported testing Chongqing coat colours in the scientific literature and there are a few breeds where the genetics are known to be different. I get the impression that because they’re from China that there was very little inbreeding over the last thousand years or so like western breeds -this probably makes the dogs closer to the wild dogs (which would explain them carrying aw in the coat colour). This may also mean that the current rules’ of coat colours are slightly different than in the highly bred dogs we normally test.

 Really fascinating!

My conclusion © :

The ancestry of  CQ dog remains a mystery, it could be that Chongqing dog and Chow Chow have the  same ancestor, probably Chow dog but at the same time Chongqing DoG  are genetically closer to wild dogs…. It means  it’s  China’s oldest breed  with a history that traces back at least 2000 years. Older than Shar Pei or Chow Chow …As hypotheses go, it’s probably a bit out there to suggest that the Chongqing Dog is some kind of ancient proto-Molosser, just as others credit yet another Asian Chinese  breed, the Tibetan Mastiff, as the forebear of so many Western Molossers .

I deeply believe CQ dogs are semi-domesticated but are more wild dog-like than dog  -like. True ancient dog a
